LimeWire Coming Back As An NFT Marketplace

Published on:

In May, LimeWire will return as a specialist in NFTs, according to the firm. The brand will focus on music, entertainment content, and art in the marketplace for digital collectibles, according to their press release.

LimeWire was a software that people used to share music, movies and other content online for free. It became very popular in 2000. Then the music and film industries started to pressure the company because they claimed that LimeWire was being used for piracy, so in 2011, the company closed its doors.

Paul and Julian Zehetmayr bought the rights to the company so they can create a platform that connects artists and fans. This version of LimeWire isn’t connected with anyone from the original company, but the pair hope to use the brand’s name to make money.

The company is not jumping into the music streaming game, but is aiming to go big in the digital world of things that you can buy and sell. This world includes things like Pokemon-themed property or a train on the Bored Ape Yacht Club. You can spend or make anywhere from a few thousand to millions of dollars in this world. People usually buy these things with cryptocurrency, but LimeWire wants to make it easier for customers by offering multiple payment options — including crypto and credit cards. It has partnered with Wyre to facilitate payments.

LimeWire will have a media release where you will be able to buy and trade music-related assets. These assets include limited editions, pre-release music, unreleased demos, graphical artwork, exclusive live versions, and digital merchandise. The company has mainstream artists onboard for this release including H.E.R. and Wu-Tang Clan members on the board.

LimeWire is planning to launch a new product in May. If you’re interested in it, you can sign up for the waitlist. The token system will be like a loyalty program for people who hold tokens. Artists and other creators can also sign up for the waitlist to get early access to LimeWire’s marketplace, or join their Discord channel here.
